Getting started with Google Forms

Welcome to the next post in the Google Classroom Tutorial series.

In this blog I am going to show you how to use get started with Google Forms. We are going to learn the following:

  1. Access and create a Google Form.

2. Edit and enter your questions in a google form.

3.Circulate the google form

4. Check the responses given by the students.

So I hope by the end of this blog you will have a thorough knowledge on how to create a google form and collect responses effectively.

So there are a couple of ways by which you can access google form. The first way is by typing, which will bring you here. The second way is by typing that will create a google form for you directly. If suppose, you want to use a template for your google form, then you should go to

So if you have type then you have to click on the plus sign or if you like a template then just click on the template.

If you want to browse some more templates then you have to click on the Template gallery on the top right.

Now we have reached the google form. So since I am making a google form for a science project in school. So i need to take the following details from the students:

  1. Name of your group
  2. Name of the student1.
  3. Name of the student2.
  4. Name of the student3.
  5. Topic of the project.

So first I am going to go and give a suitable topic for the google form and a give a small description about the google form.

By clicking on the topic name you can type the name and give a description. After I write a topic and description it will look like this.

After doing this I am moving forward to my questions. So my first question was to take the name of their science group.

Below here you have options to copy or delete this question. If you want to add an image you can click on the image icon and select your picture. Now you can decide what type of answer you are expecting from the students. You can do this by clicking on the drop down option next to the image icon. When you click on it you can see the following options:

Here there are almost all the types of answers you would want from the students. In my question I am going to select the short answer option. If I had to take a survey from the students then I would have used the multiple choice option. Now let’s move to the next question. To create a question you have to click on the plus sign.

After clicking the plus sign you’ll see something like this.

Now follow the same procedure of filling the question details and the type of answer you are expecting. So after you are done creating your google form you can preview it by clicking on the eye icon in the top right of the site.

When you click on it you will be able to see what the students are going to see. So this is how my google form will look for the students.

No you have created and previewed your google form and it is ready for responses. So there are a couple of ways by which you can share your google form.To share your google form you have to click the ascend button, that is in the top right side of your form. When you click the send option you will be seeing different options to choose from.

So as I said there are a couple of ways by which you can share your form.

  1. The first one is by sending the link via email. You just have to enter the recipients email id and they will be able to fill the form, and when you are done click send.

2. The second way is by sharing the link via some other medium. Suppose you have a group of the students, you can share the link there.

Now the google form is out for responses. Now you have to see the responses entered by the students. You have to click on the responses option at the top .

Heer you can see that two people have already filled the google form. So after you click on it you will see something like this.

Now heer are the responses but they are not in the easy to form to read. So you can see this google sheets icon, when you click on it it will take you to a more managed format where all the responses are there.

When you click on it you will get two options, either to make it in a new spreadsheet or you can select an existing spreadsheet.

So you should click on the new spreadsheet option and then click create. When you click create you will see something like this.

Here you can clearly see all the details of the students. Further if you want to create a chart of their topics, you can do that too.

This all about google forms, hope you found this helpful and I hope this blog gets you started on google forms. Do give me feedback. My email is .
